A bright, colourful, unique handmade framed abstract monoprint.
This is from an ongoing series of studio work focused on exploring shapes and colours in handmade printmaking.
Monoprinting is somewhere between printing and painting. It is printmaking because the ink is applied to a plate and then transferred to paper in a printing press, rather than being applied directly to paper. However it is similar to painting because the plate is typically just a flat surface (e.g. a sheet of perspex) and ink is painted on to it with a brush or roller. The image can be built up in many layers and it is easy to use stencils, templates or masks to apply colour only where you want it. This more painterly approach generally means monoprints are all unique, they cannot be identically repeated, they are not editioned, and are numbered 1 of 1 (i.e. an edition of 1).
