Crafted from authentic skin from Grumman OV-1D Mohawk serial number 62-5902, these PlaneTags preserve the legacy of an aircraft that served during the Vietnam War era and throughout the Cold War. Designed to gather intelligence rather than engage in combat, the Mohawk helped pioneer many of the surveillance technologies that are common in military aviation today.
Each PlaneTag is individually engraved and made from genuine aircraft skin, giving every tag its own unique markings and character.

The Grumman OV-1 Mohawk was developed for the U.S. Army as a battlefield reconnaissance aircraft. Equipped with radar, infrared, and photographic surveillance systems, the OV-1D variant helped gather critical intelligence throughout the Cold War.
Originally built as an OV-1B, aircraft 62-5902 was later upgraded to OV-1D configuration and served with the U.S. Army's 2nd Military Intelligence Battalion in Europe. After retirement, MotoArt founder Dave Hall discovered the aircraft in a South Florida swamp, recovered it, and brought it to California, where its legacy is now preserved through PlaneTags. *Important Notice – Please Read Carefully
PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.
