In the 1980 film Somewhere in Time, Christopher Reeve’s character hypnotises himself in order to travel through time and meet a young Jane Seymour. We seem to travel in time and space here to a lonely pink house situated along a canal. We wonder about the owner of this home, and whether it could have been one of the Surrealists, known for utilising hypnosis to unlock the unconscious mind. Chris’s painterly execution of the reflection in the water playfully and subtly subverts reality - the cat perhaps already staring for too long at these swirling, shifting patterns.
