Storyboards are an essential part of the production of animated content because it is with it that we decide HOW the story will be told

• How do the characters move?
• Where is the camera?
• Why is the shot framed this way?
• What are we trying to convey to the viewer?

They are essentially the script, put into pictures, as an instruction manual for the animation team. They are extremely useful in live action productions, effects-heavy production as well, even in projects such as advertisements and music videos.

This Storyboard Pro Class Curriculum is designed to provide you with all the tools you'll need to teach create a class and teach your students how to become an efficient and creative storyboard artist. In it, topics and guides start with the basics of visual storytelling. Then, it proceeds into focusing on camera work, composition and staging, and then follow it up with character acting - in small scale and large - with an importance placed on showing your students how to communicate their creative intentions to the animation team.

Students will be tasked with producing several pieces of sequential work that focus on each of the concepts that are covered throughout the course; from using paper and pen to Toon Boom's industry-standard software: Storyboard Pro.

At the end of the class, your students - on top of having practiced with several samples of sequential art - will also have a personal project animatic to include in their portfolio.
