Incredible artistic creativity and perfection in six yards of Dhakai organza!! This white Dhakai organza saree, has the entire epic of Ramayana woven using the classic Jamdani technique along the border. In keeping with the theme of the battle for the triumph of good over evil, the buttas on the body are bows, arrows and quivers. The making of Jamdani involves the supplementary weft technique along with the standard weft technique. With the latter, the base sheer material is made on which thicker threads are used to create designs. Each of the supplementary weft motif is then added manually - a laborious, painstaking technique that results in visual beauty! The pallu depicts the climactic battle between Rama and Lakshmana on one side at war with Ravana on a horse drawn chariot. The level of detailing is incredible, right down to two severed heads of the ten-headed Ravana. This saree was woven over 16 months by a National award winning weaver-artist.
