The Murphys inspired the characters Dick and Nicole Diver in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Tender is the Night, and lived with Scott and Zelda in Paris and the French Riviera in the 1920s, surrounded by great artists, exceptional writers, and life’s finer things. The playwright Archibald MacLeish called the Murphys “masters in the art of living.”
