A large property by Pomerol standards at 32 hectares, Château Nenin's vineyards are made up of 78% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon aged between 30-50 years with gravel, clay and sandy soils. Established by the Despujol family in 1840, the property was sold in 1997 to cousins by marriage, the Delon family who also own Château Léoville Las Cases and Château Potensac. Since this acquisition improvements have been made, for example yields have been reduced, grapes are left to mature for longer on the vine and the château itself has been renovated. JA, You can see the texture of this is thicker than some, and the colour is inky damson. Overall a good quality wine that has finesse and poise, it's broad shouldered and one that needs longer in bottle but it's good quality. AH, Juicy, fleshy, dark berry fruits. Good acidity. Medium + weight. Bright and fresh. Lacks a little bit of complexity at the moment but this will develop with time. Nicely integrated oak. TT, Opaque crimson with purple hints. Very rich and opulent fruit character. Blackberry, cherry kirsch - rich concentrated fruit flavours - high levels of grippy tannins and a good balance of vibrant acidity leads to a refreshing long finish. Has significant potential for ageing.
