OsteoMD is a bone health supplement developed by 1MD. It claims it’s specifically formulated to support bone density, relieve stiffness and pain, and aid in calcium absorption. There’s actually some decent ingredients in here, the question is whether or not it’s worth the $55 price tag.

The sad fact is that it doesn’t really justify the cost, but it is a good supplement. The ingredients calcium hydroxyapatite, vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 are relatively common deficiencies and they are essential for bone health as OsteoMD claim.

But, a lot of bone and joint supplements contain D3 and K2 whilst offering a lot more ingredients on top.

And considering you can pick up a calcium and vitamin d supplement for about $20 on amazon we can’t justify the price hike for the addition of vitamin K2 in OsteoMD.

The calcium is a good type, by which we mean that it’s quite bioavailable or easily absorbed by the body. This is also why a relatively simple supplement has to come in 3 capsules, as the more bioavaible forms of calcium generally contain a lower percentage of it. In short you need to take more of it. This is generally an issue with supplementing calcium and OsteoMD does a good job here.

The reviews of OsteoMD are pretty decent and generally it’s a solid supplement.

The problem is when they start making claims about joint stiffness and pain, it's true that vit d deficiency can cause joint pain, but that's the line here. And that's included in far better joint supplements. And considering most supplements that make those claims tend to contain ingredients shown to be effective anti inflammatories or pain blockers which OsteoMD does not inlcude.

In short, if you’ve got the money to spare then OsteoMD is a good option, but it’s not substantially better than most $20 calcium and vitamin D supplements.

The reviews of OsteoMD are generally pretty positive, and it is a solid product, a few of the more recent ones look a bit “suspect”. Considering that a lot of the OsteoMD reviews seem to parrot marketing phrases, or not actually talk about the experience with the product we do have to start to filter some of these out. All in all though it does still seem to score a little over 4*.

As for 1MD, the parent company of OsteoMD their reviews are a little odd. They seem to have two different profiles on TrustPilot, one that seems to be some sort of cover for the other. With the reviews being particularly poor on the older one and all the reviews seeming to be from the subcontinent on the other. Whilst few of these are reviews for OsteoMD specifically a lot of people suggest that they have a lot of problems with delivery from 1MD themselves, and several customers saying that they recommend buying OsteoMD from Amazon along with any other products as then they will deal with these sorts of issues.

OsteoMD Ingredients

Calcium hydroxyapatite - Calcium hydroxyapatite is a form of calcium derived from cow bone. It is a natural source of calcium and contains other minerals, as well as bone proteins like collagen. Calcium hydroxyapatite has been shown to support bone health and may help slow down bone turnover. It is considered an effective form of calcium supplementation, particularly for individuals who may have difficulty absorbing other forms of calcium. [1] Meaning this is actually a really good choice for OsteoMD.

Vitamin D3 - OsteoMD contains vitamin D3, also known as cholecalciferol. Vitamin D3 plays a crucial role in calcium absorption, ensuring that the body can effectively utilize calcium for bone health. It works by increasing the absorption of calcium from the intestines and promoting its deposition in bones. Vitamin D3 also helps regulate calcium levels in the blood, preventing calcium from being pulled out of the bones. [2]

Vitamin K2 - Vitamin K2 is a form of vitamin K that is involved in the regulation of bone remodeling. It activates proteins that help direct calcium to the bones and teeth, preventing it from accumulating in soft tissues. Vitamin K2 also supports the production of osteocalcin, a protein essential for bone formation. Which is of course why it’s in OsteoMD. [3] The thing that makes vitamin K2 interesting is that it’s actually a more common deficiency that vitamin K1, and whilst K1 can be transferred into K2 it is relatively ineffective. [4] There have been some calls from the medical community to have separate RDI’s for the two versions, due to it’s importance and many people simply being unaware they don’t have enough.

Hadjod extract - Hadjod extract, derived from the plant Cissus quadrangularis, an ingredient rather unique to OsteoMD. This is the relatively unknown ingredients. There is some research that suggests that hadjod extract may stimulate the cells responsible for bone formation and block the cells involved in bone resorption. This dual action may help promote bone mineralization and increase bone density. Although the research is rather limited on humans it’s a novel ingredient. [5]

OsteoMD Side Effects

Possible interactions with medications: OsteoMD contains vitamin K2, which may interact with certain medications, such as blood thinners. If you are taking any medications, especially blood thinners, it is important to consult with your healthcare provider before starting OsteoMD.

OsteoMD Review Conclusion

OsteoMD by 1MD is a decent bone health supplement and at least on the vitamin front it's very high quality. The claims it can promote bone density and aid in calcium absorption are reasonable. The claims around stiffness and pain however pale in comparison to a proper joint support supplement.

The only problem is that as we said it's a little bit on the pricey side. If you're looking for general bone health though you could do worse.

However, with the price point you can get a much more comprehensive supplement, with a lot of the best bone and joint supplements containing far more ingredients for the price point.
