Germany began to modernise its army from 1933 and onwards. An important part of Wehrmacht motorisation was the manufacturing of three-axle 3-tonne trucks. One of them was the Krupp L3H63, which was in production lines since 1931. The modification Krupp L3H163 (1936-1938) had a 110hp 6-cylinder petrol engine and pneumatic brakes.
Around 2,000 Krupp L3H63 and Krupp L3H163 trucks were produced and were widely used by all parts of the German army up to 1942. Some truck chassis had special bodies. One of them was the Kfz.72 van body. These machines were used as transmitters and receivers for the powerful A/B mobile radio stations.
