An unusual Victorian solitaire ring, circa 1880. Set to centre with an oval cushion-cut green zircon, weighing approximately 2.19ct, in an open back claw setting that allows light to pass freely through the stone.
Renowned for their exceptional lustre and dispersion, Zircon is the oldest known gemstone on Earth. This striking example displays a vibrant, verdant green hue and is remarkably free from natural inclusions, making it an especially rare and highly desirable stone. Entirely cut by hand, its deep, carefully considered proportions animate the stone; As it catches the light, the zircon reveals a shifting spectrum of rich tones and subtle shades, bringing the gem to life.
The star-like setting of the stone is typical of the late Victorian style and is frequently seen in gypsy rings from the same time. The shoulders elegantly taper inwards to a solid 9ct gold shank which smoothly conforms to the finger. The interior of the shank is fully hallmarked but has worn away with age.
Unless stated otherwise, gem weights and specifications are estimated (assessed in mount).
