The J-29F Fighter variant, a remarkable transformation of 308 aircraft from the B and E model airframes between 1954 and 1956, incorporated the powerful afterburning Ghost engine and a distinctive dog-tooth wing. In a significant upgrade in 1963, all remaining aircraft were equipped to launch a pair of AIM-9B Sidewinder heat-seeking air-to-air missiles, the Rb 24, manufactured under license by SAAB.
