The Maksutov-Cassegrain design folds the light path with a primary and secondary mirror behind a sealed meniscus corrector lens, delivering a long effective focal length in a fraction of the physical tube length. The f/15 focal ratio produces the highest inherent contrast of any FirstLight telescope — ideal for splitting fine detail on Jupiter's cloud bands, Saturn's ring divisions, and lunar crater walls.
