A play-of-colour resembling that of an artist’s palette, this mesmerising opal gemstone is completely natural, formed by mother nature. I have always found opals as gemstones truly inspiring. Opals are formed when rainwater carries silica into hollows and fissures in ground rocks. As time goes by the silica molecules create a lattice structure, and as light passes through it, it diffracts and splits into different colours. This simple explanation belies the true splendour of opals and their explosions of rainbow colour, no two of which are the same. This ring is set with a superb opal showing an astonishingly intricate and vivid play of colour, like the feathers of a kingfisher. This mesmerisingly beautiful stone is set within an organically textured mount, which complements it beautifully. A superb jewel to be savoured and worn on special occasions to best preserve its iridescent beauty.
