Linn Selekt DSM Edition Hub

The Selekt DSM Edition Hub occupies the middle tier of Linn's DSM range — above the Majik DSM, below the Klimax DSM. What distinguishes it from both is its modular architecture: the chassis accepts swappable internal cartridges that define the outputs and DAC performance, allowing the product to be configured, and reconfigured, without replacing the unit. Buy it once, upgrade it later — Linn's approach to the Selekt is that the investment is in the platform as much as the current configuration.

The Edition variant (as distinct from the Classic Hub) has an all-machined aluminium chassis with a mirrored spy glass panel and a precision-turned stainless steel control bearing with 100-LED illumination. It is built to a standard that matches its internal ambitions.

Modular Configuration

Three cartridge slots accept a range of Linn-designed cards: stereo line-level outputs, stereo power amplifier outputs, mono line-level outputs, subwoofer outputs, and HDMI switching modules for AV integration. The DAC module — Standard, Katalyst, or Organik — fits into the system independently of the output cards. This means a Selekt DSM Edition Hub can be purchased with a Standard DAC and later upgraded to Katalyst or Organik without chassis replacement.

This is a genuine upgrade path, not a marketing promise. The Katalyst DAC architecture introduced in 2016 represented a meaningful performance step over the standard configuration; the Organik DAC, which Linn developed entirely in-house, raises the ceiling again. Each step is audible to anyone who listens carefully.

Space Optimisation and Exakt

Like every Linn DSM, the Selekt Edition Hub includes Space Optimisation — Linn's mathematically modelled room correction that addresses bass behaviour and stereo imaging by accounting for room dimensions, materials, and speaker placement. The effect on imaging and bass definition is one of the more dramatic demonstrations available in Norwich.

Two Exakt Link outputs allow direct connection to Exakt-enabled loudspeakers such as the Linn 530. In an Exakt system, the digital signal travels from the DSM to the speaker as a bitstream — the DAC conversion happens inside the cabinet, just before the amplifier for each individual drive unit. There is no analogue interconnect, no passive crossover, no signal degradation between source and driver. The Selekt Edition Hub, paired with 530s, is a complete, high-performing system that requires no separate amplification and no speaker cable.

Note: DSD files do not play back over the Exakt Link — they are handled by the internal DAC and output via analogue connections.

Who Is It For?

The Selekt DSM Edition Hub is for the listener who wants to enter the Linn ecosystem at a serious level, with the option to improve the system over time without replacing the central component. It suits those who already have quality passive amplification and speakers — the Edition Hub can drive them directly via line-level outputs — as well as those moving towards an Exakt active system using the Linn 530 or other Exakt-compatible speakers.

It is also worth considering for those who know they want Organik DAC performance but are not yet ready to invest in the Klimax DSM. The Edition Hub with Organik is a step closer to the Klimax than the price differential suggests, and the modular platform means the chassis remains relevant through future Linn developments.
