Founded in 1891 in the heart of Speyside, Craigellachie Distillery is one of Scotland’s classic late-Victorian distilleries. Sitting above the confluence of the Spey and Fiddich, it’s famed for traditional production methods that give the whisky its robust and unapologetically characterful profile. Think: grilled pineapple, malt biscuit, wax polish and toasted spice.

The distillery boasts an incredibly successful range of official bottlings, popular, not only in the UK, but all across the world. This level of brand reputation is a key indicator of a good cask for us.

Beyond its single malt releases, Craigellachie is a key component in Dewar’s blends, under Bacardi’s ownership. Limited allocations to the single-malt market and growing recognition since the “Last Great Malts” relaunch have tightened supply, lifting demand for both casks and independent bottlings.

There is an opportunity to add additional value to this cask by re-racking it into a premium sherry / dessert wine cask. For example, filled into a first fill Pedro Ximenez sherry cask from such an early age, the resulting spirit would be incredibly dark and sweet when it reaches bottling age. As a bottler, this significantly increases demand and warrants a higher retail price. As a private owner, the finished cask will be much more desirable to bottlers, allowing for an easier and more profitable exit.
