A luthier is a maker of stringed instruments, and this board relies heavily on the beautiful, sustainably grown wood offcuts from the Santa Cruz Guitar Company. It pays homage to our luthier friends at this legendary company. They have been making exceptional guitars for the likes of Johnny Cash, Ben Harper, Elvis Costello, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Buffet, and hundreds of others since 1976.

The Tanker Luthier Longboard is a performance work of art. It is quick to turn and is a terrific nose rider. The stunning redwood came from the floorboards of the historic Schwan Victorian mansion in Santa Cruz, California. The house was built of locally milled, old growth wood in the 1890's, and these clear grain, heart redwood floorboards served the residents all the way through the early 2000's when the house was demolished.

The wood has an amazing grain pattern and rich, red color. The beautiful dual stringers are laid out in an arrow pattern using spruce, rosewood and Honduras mahogany offcuts from the Santa Cruz Guitar Company. The bottom deck has dual strips of ash offcuts from a cabinet shop. There is a small dot of abalone at the tip, abalone inlay on the bottom deck tail and guitar purfling on the top deck tail. The tail wood is rosewood and koa, again from Santa Cruz Guitar Company offcuts.

The fin is steam-bent rosewood and spruce also from Santa Cruz Guitar Company offcuts.

The rails are made of cork, and it was glassed with Entropy Super Sap 100 Resin and 4oz. fiberglass cloth (two layers on top and one on bottom) from Aerialite surf glass.
