Pan Umbar, Wednesday Buddha is depicted in a standing pose, with both hands holding an alms bowl and both heels pressed together. This posture serves as a reminder of the duty of the monks to adhere to Buddha’s ideal of detachment and poverty. They are also reminded to go each day to receive food from the hands of the believers. The story goes that after four years of his ministry, Buddha went to his family community in Kapilavatsu, a town in Nepal, to collect offerings from the people there. The following day, he returned and presented himself at the palace of the king, his father, so that the members of the royal family could, in a spirit of peace, make their food offerings.
