Antique Edwardian Straw Hat w/Black Bird Head & Feathers
Unusual hat c.1900 - 1919, it is a flat crowned, wide brimmed topper woven out of an intricate interplay of straw. The crown is ringed with a black velvet ribbon with the rear displaying the two, descending sashes. But it's all about the front which is surmounted by three dimensional black and green bird head cut out of velvet and decorated with a beak and eye. On either side are feathers that mimic its wings. They seem to be a combination of black bird feathers and black horse hair. Interior is unlined and bears a petersham ribbon around the circumference. No tags.
Interior circumference 20"
Diameter of crown 7"
Width of brim 1.5"
Condition: very good with no issues to note other than the interior shows a remnant of a black veil that did not survive the century! Also the interior petersham ribbon shows some discoloration. See pics for details.
