Vintage Geiger suit from the 1990's. Boiled wool jacket is a dark teal and the matching pleated skirt is patterned in shades of teal and gold.

Skirt is pleated from the waist band which has a button closing and side zipper. Center front and back has a wide pleated panel which is stitched down to around the knee area. Completely lined with soft dark gold acetate with side seam pockets on both hips. The fabric content label indicates 100% wool but it doesn't feel at all like wool.

The short jacket is made from 100% boiled wool with no liner. Six silvertone metal buttons create a nice design feature in the front while allowing full closure from top to bottom with the extra button still inside. Sleeves are long with two small front pockets.

Label is the well known Geiger, Made in Austria. Each piece is labelled Geiger on the inside with the outside metal emblem on the outside.

Geiger Tyrol is a traditional Austrian clothing maker, started in 1906 by Barbara Geiger. She adapted traditional Tyrolean knit patterns and, using wool acquired locally from farmers, started a cottage industry. By the 1950s, the company was well established and was chosen to outfit the Austrian ski team in 1954. The development for which Geiger is best known, the Tyrolean Walk Jacket, came about in 1957. Before that time, walk jackets were knit two sizes too large, and then boiled to shrink the jacket to a proper fit. Geiger developed a boiled wool fabric that could be boiled first, then cut out in the correct size. Today, Geiger is still a family-owned and family-run business, with the fourth generation of Geigers at the helm.
