Deadstock merino wool beanies (unworn but unwanted), turned inside out and screen printed, reintroduced for a new life.

This small batch of limited edition upcycled hats celebrates Claude Cahun's enduring influence on art and queer history with new compositions derived from one of their most celebrated photographs: a weight-training flapper whose gender is simultaneously illegible and yet undeniably on display.

For this design we took two alternate shots from this 1920s self portrait series, less well-known than the signature image (included in this product images) and made an additional print with the text on Cahun's shirt "I AM IN TRAINING DON'T KISS ME". 

We helped manage excess garment "waste" from a shuttered men's luxury sportswear brand by turning these lovelorn hats inside out and into unique pieces that celebrates queerness, transformation, fluidity and creative self expression. Traces of the original print are visible, showing the dynamic history and layered narrative that make these beanies so uniquely anti-waste. We love them for their non-automated and DIY feel and slight variations between each hat. No two are exactly the same!
